Critters: The Great Hippo, JakDragon
Anomaly №: SCP-XXXX
Anomaly Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept at Site-591 in an enlarged windowless containment chamber that allows for free movement, with several systems that provide nutrient-rich mist to the subject every 24 hours. Subject may be provided a device used to listen to music and given 20 songs released or created from the 1800s to early 2010s if good behavior is met; access may be revoked if deemed necessary. Guards are to be assigned to SCP-XXXX's chamber. They are to be given authority with restricting or disallowing access to the anomaly by hostile factions or forces. All guards are to be equipped with blindfolds per the request of SCP-XXXX's head researcher, and are to wear them if asked by the anomaly for their presence. Researchers conducting interviews with SCP-XXXX are to wear integrated goggles with a Tro filtration1 device; under no circumstances should they remove them. Should accidental contamination occur, affected personnel are to undergo treatment and taught sign language or other suitable means of communication.
Several dozen organisms affected by SCP-XXXX are to be maintained in a sound-proof chamber and treated as a Class-5 biohazard. Access to these organisms is forbidden unless a request is placed and approved by Site director Tro. This order may be bypassed if SCP-XXXX requests access; so long as good behavior is maintained or if the subject shows disinterest in current music provided. If SCP-XXXX becomes hostile in any manner, it is to be tranquilized utilizing carfentanil.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a 3.9-meter invertebrate of extraterrestrial origin. It possesses four arthropod legs ending in hook-like protrusions, two arm-like appendages ending in claw-like structures, and a “tail” with an optical organ surrounded by petals on its tip. Despite its resemblance to arthropods (specifically members of the order Scorpiones), it possesses organelles and cell structures only found in plants. It also feeds through four pseudopod-like structures found behind its “arms” via filtration of nutrients rather than deriving them from soil.
SCP-XXXX has been shown to be highly intelligent and capable of telepathic communication, though this is only possible if an organism makes eye contact with the subject. Initial interviews have revealed little information due to its main property, though the following has been deduced:
- Age is approximately 10,000 to 20,000 years old since its arrival on earth.
- Subject “speaks” in a voice described as masculine, though analysis has shown it to have no discernable sex chromosomes or other structures.
- Origin pinpoints to a planet in a nearby star system, the exact nature of this planet or its culture is not entirely understood due to SCP-XXXX’s reluctance to diverge these details.
- Subject enjoys musical activities and possesses extensive knowledge of the subject.
- Subject has had some interaction with members of “The Serpent’s Hand” but possesses no other knowledge of the group.
If an organism retains eye contact with SCP-XXXX in excess of ten minutes, they will be subjected to a Type-4 cognitiohazard, which can cause somewhat detrimental mind-affecting properties. This will cause the organism to lose the ability to communicate in a meaningful manner, reducing their ability to moaning and similar noises. After a period of two days, the organisms will be able to produce and recognize noises in any harmonical tone or pitch. Chemotherapy has been shown to successfully halt the effects of exposure, though 50% of subjects will lose their ability to communicate verbally. Untreated subjects will succumb to abnormal growth and enter a vegetative state, prolonged periods in this state will transmute the subject into organisms similar to terrestrial plants and fauna. The species of plant these organisms mimic is dependent on their original biology, though some organisms will retain their original appearance in 30% of cases2. Indirectly viewing SCP-XXXX’s eye has no effect on a subject, though viewing it through means such as opaque glass or mirrors will produce the effect. The maximum range of this effect is also unknown, as an individual can be affected if retaining eye contact from several kilometers away.
Despite this restructuring, affected subjects will not have their vocal cords or facial orifices altered or lost should they assume the form of a certain plant species not capable of supporting such. Once fully converted, SCP-XXXX is able to command affected organisms to produce tones and beats consistent with a capella or other forms of music. Music produced by SCP-XXXX affected organisms has been shown to carry several anomalies with mind-affecting and other hazards similar to SCP-XXXX’s3, they have also been shown to possess several physical biohazards and are extremely aggressive if provoked. Additionally, those still capable of speech will make vocalizations indicating extreme discomfort; they will also be capable of speaking in an unknown language if relieved of this pain.
Addendum-1 (Discovery Log): (Void is in charge of this part, I'm just a spider watching)
Addendum-2 (Interview Log): The following is an interview conducted by Researcher Lee exactly one year after SCP-XXXX’s acquisition and containment, which was conducted to determine the anomaly’s intentions and origin.
