Special Containment Procedures: The area containing SCP-XXXX is logistically separated into 8 subcontainment zones covering more than 4,000 square kilometers of the region known as Appalachia. These subcontainment zones are headquartered by monitoring and security stations designated as SCP-XXXX-Θ-1 through SCP-XXXX-Θ-8, and are responsible for securing known points of egress.

Monitoring Task Force Rho-3 ("The Hills Have Eyes") has been assigned to provide satellite imaging of the containment area in order to better identify new points of egress and assist in the tracking and neutralization of SCP-XXXX-2 instances.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a subterranean mass of organic tissues being extruded from the corpse of an unknown human female. The DNA present in these tissues is highly complex, containing more than 250 billion base pairs1 as well as genetic markers found within all known species of flora and fauna common to the region, including humans.

The compound classified as SCP-XXXX-1 is a highly viscous sap that flows through the deep interior of SCP-XXXX. When exposed to air, it sublimates into an anomalous pheromone that suppresses adrenal response, activates the salivary glands, and exponentially increases feelings of hunger. If SCP-XXXX-1 is consumed in significant quantities by a subject that has already been exposed to SCP-XXXX, a number of physical changes begin that result in their classification as an instance of SCP-XXXX-2.

Although this process is poorly understood due to ethical concerns, it begins with widespread, uncontrolled cellular growth. As the subject continues to grow, their bones are replaced with a lattice of cellulose-based structures to support their new mass. A number of bony protrusions and ridges form on the back, arms, and legs of the subject. Hands and feet show substantial thickening of the skin and the fusion of a number of joints, resulting in the majority of instances of SCP-XXXX-2 being effectively quadrupedal.

After transformation, instances of SCP-XXXX-2 are able to subsist indefinitely on a diet of SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1.

In 1994, Foundation assets were called in by the UIU on a rash of missing person cases in Appalachia. Two field reconnaissance agents and one cryptozoologist were dispatched to assist in the investigation centered around the township of Norma, TN and its adjacent parks. In the interests of cooperation, a copy of that in-progress report was provided to the Foundation and amended to this file.

UIU File [1991]-[108]: Norma TN Missing Persons

Summary: Three [3] students from UT-Knoxville drove into the Appalachians for a long weekend of camping, as reported by their peers. Their original itinerary was to for three nights and returning on the fourth day, however, a missing persons report was filed when the students had not returned by day five. The Scott County Sheriff Department and the Tennessee State Park Service responded and conducted a grid search. This resulted in the discovery of the student's abandoned campsite.

During the course of the search, two members of the park service and two members of the sheriff department were additionally reported missing during the search. At this time, assistance was requested from the FBI and delegated to the Unusual Incidents Unit.

Field teams discovered multiple secondary sites which included partially digested human remains, large deposits of tumor-riddled human flesh, and substantial quantities of discarded human teeth. Secondary Site #5 also contained the damaged demains of a 'Kodak DCS' brand camera and a partial video record taken by the missing persons.
