The Chernobyl exclusion zone is the jurisdiction of the Chernobyl Paranatural Management Authority (CPMA), an intergovernmental organization responsible for the containment and/or neutralization of anomalous phenomenon discovered within the Chernobyl exclusion zone. The Foundation's containment of SCP-XXXX is a responsibility agreed upon by agreements made with the CPMA. Cooperation with the CPMA is to be done in good faith as mandated by said agreements. Contact your local site director if you need assigned a CPMA liaison or require general contact information.

Special Containment Procedures:
Current containment of SCP-XXXX is severely deficient. It is crucial that extensive measures are implemented swiftly in order to mitigate the immediate risk of containment failure. Loss of containment for any physically measurable interval of time will instigate an instantaneous expansion event. This will result in an XK-Class End-of-the-World scenario.

The aforementioned containment insufficiency is due to significant power and cooling constraints being suffered by the "Apophis" Confinement Cluster, the device that is currently containing SCP-XXXX. Throttling of the cluster is causing it to operate considerably below its 6000 gigatonne rating, which is preventing the stable and safe containment of SCP-XXXX. In order to achieve stability, the continuous power and cooling capacity made available to the "Apophis" Confinement Cluster must be increased.

1986 [AMIDA] MANDATE:
The Foundation must investigate all possible solutions to SCP-XXXX containment. Physics-Reality containment specialists, engineers with experience in high voltage systems, or any otherwise relevant personnel, are encouraged to draft and submit containment proposals as urgently as possible. Submitted containment proposals will be evaluated at a maximally accelerated rate.

1988 WORKFORCE MANDATE:
Personnel who are willing to volunteer to work in radioactive areas despite exceeding mandated exposure limits are to be allowed to do so. On-site containment specialists are allowed to make Level 4 decisions regardless of personal clearance/authority level. Personnel are explicitly authorized to take actions that are in breach of CPMA protocol if it will ensure the continuing safe containment of SCP-XXXX. The Foundation will take full measures in order to protect personnel under legal or personal threat due to actions made in good faith.

1989 POWER RELIEF MANDATE:
The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant is to be refurbished and expanded. Decommissioning must immediately cease, and the plant is to return to full operation with all reactors as soon as possible, save for reactor No. 4. Accordingly, reactors No. 5, and No. 6 are to immediately have their construction resume. The No. 2 reactor is to be refurbished and repaired. The output power of the plant must be used exclusively for the containment of SCP-XXXX.

Additionally, electrical power, in certain emergency situations, may now be sourced from the national power grid. Only the containment supervisor can authorize usage of grid power. If the containment supervisor chooses to draw power from the national grid, they are to not draw an excessive quantity of power. There is no restriction on pulling the maximum amount of power possible if it is necessary to ensure containment.

Description:
SCP-XXXX is a spacetime anomaly located within the obliterated core of the Chernobyl Power Plant's No. 4 reactor, in Pripyat, Ukraine. It is naturally propagating anomaly, only contained by a confinement singularity as it energetically radiates out of the No.4 reactor core. Despite seeming contained, SCP-XXXX has a widespread and intense influence on reality. It is directly responsible for a long series of anomalous phenomena that has been occurring within the Chernobyl exclusion zone since 1986.

Specifically, SCP-XXXX is a region of spacetime suffering from a 'true vacuum'¹ of multiple physical fields. The behavior of natural phenomena radically differs inside of SCP-XXXX. In what exact ways reality differs from the interior of SCP-XXXX is unknown, but it is presently theorized that a true vacuum has affected the following fields/particles:

• Electrons
• Photons (electromagnetic field)
• Higgs
• Several unknown fields/particles (potentially gravitons, weakly interacting massive particles²)

As a spacetime anomaly, SCP-XXXX is mostly unaffected by the usual local reality stabilization containment schemes. The only known containment method is confinement into a spacetime event horizon formed by singularity. Event horizons are boundaries no information can leave once inside, so a true vacuum is prevented from expansion by confinement inside of an event horizon.

If containment failed, the boundary of SCP-XXXX would instantly begin expansion at the speed of light, encompassing the Earth within less than a second. The potential energy of all matter entering the boundary would instantly drop, causing the release of an enormous amount of energy - meaning all entering matter is effectively atomized. SCP-XXXX would destroy most of the solar system within hours, and expansion would continue on for the life-time of the universe. As is likely evident, it is improbable that any life on Earth would survive this event.

CONFINEMENT

A Hargreave Linear Spacetime Compressor being used for an experiment. The complete "Apophis" Confinement Cluster contains 16 of these units.

The "Apophis" Confinement Cluster is an over-unity spacetime singularity formation device. Functionally, it operates by compressing spacetime into a single, infinitely dense point, instantly forming an object very analogous to a black hole³. The equivalent mass of the purely spacetime singularity is simply referred to as the singularity mass, usually measured in gigatonnes. The cluster is capable of 6000 gigatonnes when supplied with maximum power.

The cluster is a complicated and massive device, composed of many large subassemblies. Specifically, 4 Maxwell-Vance Spatial Stabilization Arrays are compounded with a circular cluster of 16 Hargreave Linear Spacetime Compressors. A 500 megawatt cooling assembly is incorporated into the cluster, which is interfacing with the CNPP cooling reservoir. The "Apophis" Confinement Cluster" subassemblies were designed to be modular in order to allow the rapid replacement of components in the event of damage to the cluster. This feature has proven invaluable in hindsight, as several incidents have caused the destruction of one or more Hargreave Linear Spacetime Compressors, which had to be immediately replaced.

Confinement by singularity also induces cooling complications. To explain, the event horizon formed by the confinement cluster naturally emits an enormous amount of Hawking radiation. Black holes, or similar cosmic objects, degenerate progressively faster from Hawking radiation as their event horizon becomes smaller (decreasing mass), which is demonstrated by the fact a black hole effectively appears to be constantly exploding when it approaches cosmically very small masses. The containment chamber walls naturally will absorb this radiation, and thus require active cooling.

The complications arise from the fact that the confinement cluster is being throttled. The relationship between singularity mass and event horizon size means that running the confinement cluster at higher mass reduces the cooling system load significantly, due to the larger event horizon. The cooling assembly of the cluster was intended to cool the device and containment chamber at singularity masses close to the maximum output of the cluster. Accordingly, the cooling system is currently operating considerably past its intended capacity.

The ПВКСМ-3500⁴ was a materials synthesizing device based on spacetime catalyzed nuclear reactions.

1. Vacuum in the field of physics refers to the lowest possible energy state of any system. A field permeates all of space and governs the energy state of things like particles (e.g. photons).

Any field will have a lowest possible energy, or vacuum. If the lowest energy state of this field, the energy level that is normally observed in the universe, is not actually the lowest possible, aka a false vacuum, an event, anomalous or otherwise, could cause a region of this field to lose energy even when it's at vacuum. That would cause the region to fall into the actual lowest possible energy state, aka the true vacuum. This region would instantly expand outwards at the speed of light, and the physics and chemistry inside would differ radically from current reality.

2. A hypothetical particle responsible for the phenomenon of dark matter. The origin of dark matter is an unsolved problem in physics.

3. Unlike a black hole, the singularity is not formed by gravitation. Instead, spacetime is effectively being continuously compressed into an arbitrary point, rather than being allowed to inflate or otherwise allow any information to expand past an event horizon.
