Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: Art communities, both physical and digital,2 are to be heavily monitored for SCP-XXXX-1 instances. Once an instance is identified they must immediately be administered amnestics and all SCP-XXXX-A pieces created by the subject are to be destroyed.
Personnel near the presence of a Takeoff Event are instructed to cover their eyes until the event ceases. Foundation bot I/O-BEHOLDER will be checked for suspicious mood fluctuations that entail a possible public Takeoff Event.
As SCP-XXXX is a mild infohazard, researchers who show signs of SCP-XXXX activity will also be administered amnestics.
Once SCP-XXXX influence has been completely wiped out, archives of SCP-XXXX-A are to be deleted.
A search for the existing band members of "P\N\R\M" is to be ongoing.
Description: SCP-XXXX is the designation of a psychogenic collective that manifests as multi-colored entities of variable appearance. It is unknown what triggers SCP-XXXX, although it commonly appears within artists who are struggling with depression, creative block, and unorthodox fixations. SCP-XXXX exists within the subconscious of those affected. As such, people unfamiliar with SCP-XXXX's anomalous nature will perceive the subject's imagination as being strange or hyperactive. If ignored, SCP-XXXX will not progress past this stage, and will gradually dissipate from the subject's psyche.
Subjects under the influence of SCP-XXXX are classified as SCP-XXXX-1. Upon becoming an SCP-XXXX-1 instance, subjects quickly begin conversing with SCP-XXXX, and view them in a positive light, often referring to them as friends, muses, tulpae, angels, or 'Alucinari Fabricae'. Such conversations are often mental, and may be in the subject's native language, or in an abstract dialect composed of emotions and impressions. Artistic works created by SCP-XXXX-1 instances (referred to as SCP-XXXX-A) are usually visual in nature; however, rare instances of musical and performance art have been discovered as well. SCP-XXXX-A possesses mild infohazardous properties. Subjects who view an example of SCP-XXXX-A have a 2.3% chance of becoming an instance of SCP-XXXX-1. All pieces of SCP-XXXX-A are non-anomalous otherwise.
There are several reoccurring themes and motifs within SCP-XXXX-A pieces, including but not limited to:3
- Saturated colors
- Surrealism
- Illustrating bodily fluids as multicolored
- Representations of SCP-XXXX
- Irregular shapes
- Chaotic visuals
- Body transfiguration4
- Abstraction
- Escapism
When SCP-XXXX-1 instances begin to invest their time in the creation and consumption of SCP-XXXX-A, the concept of SCP-XXXX will begin to take a more prominent role in the instance's life. Subjects will engage in intricate and complex conversations with SCP-XXXX in private, with a near-constant nonverbal dialogue taking place during SCP-XXXX-A creation. Subjects become aware of the abnormalities in their behavior, but show decreased interest in maintaining social standing. At this stage, communication with SCP-XXXX fulfills the roles of normal social contact, prompting the subject to self-isolate.
Once the concept of SCP-XXXX becomes fully realized within a subject's mind, an anomalous occurrence referred to as a Takeoff Event will occur.
An SCP-XXXX-1 undergoing a Takeoff Event enters a euphoric state, exhibiting signs of delirium, sensory overload, and extreme enthusiasm. Behaviors such as rhythmic stomps and arm swinging, as well as other celebratory movements, are common. SCP-XXXX-1 in this state often fail to respond to questioning, replying only with confusion, simple acknowledgements, or verbal exhortations of excitement.
Takeoff Events begin with the area around the subject intensely saturating in color. This is then followed by the manifestation of several brightly colored beings (referred to as SCP-XXXX-B) entering the area from nearby, visually occluded locations. SCP-XXXX-B vary wildly in form, only occasionally conforming to a humanoid body plan, and slightly differ depending on the observer.
These entities act in a manner similar to the subject, moving in an energetic, enthusiastic fashion, gathering closely around the subject. Once the subject is nearly occluded from view, SCP-XXXX-B will begin using simple tools or parts of their bodies to physically transmute the subject. This process takes three to fifteen minutes, during which more SCP-XXXX-B appear, watching the process.
Once a Takeoff Event has finished, SCP-XXXX-B entities will begin to dissipate until they are no longer visible. This includes subjects who have been converted by SCP-XXXX-B. The only traces of a Takeoff Event that are left include multicolored stains and several scraps of cloth and rubber with indistinct patterns painted or drawn onto them. It is unknown where SCP-XXXX-B instances locate once they have vanished.
DISCOVERY LOG
SCP-XXXX was discovered 2019/12/18, three hours after the release of "until there's nothing human left" by P\N\R\M, a mildly influential industrial dream-pop band popular in Cleveland. The anomaly is brought to the Foundation's attention when Foundation bot I/O-BEHOLDER detects unexplained fluctuations in mood across Cleveland social media, strongly correlated with the viewing of the album.
An investigation revealed that all members of the band were at various stages of SCP-XXXX influence, making "until there's nothing human left" an instance of SCP-XXXX-A. The album received highly positive reception, several praising it for its originality and atmosphere, as well as its disorienting melodic structures.
A live performance venue for the album is set up in Cleveland, Ohio concurrent with the release, which is heavily advertised online and results in a turnout of around ███ people.
The performance proceeds normally until Ricardo Davis, the lead guitarist of the band, undergoes a Takeoff Event whilst soloing near the end of the last song on the album. The concert hall in which the show is being hosted begins to saturate in color, and several SCP-XXXX-B instances appear from behind the stage's periphery, advancing into brightly lit areas.
Anomalous movement occurs in the stage's lighting system, spotlights flashing in a rapid sequence of saturated colors, each time illuminating a different portion of the stage. Occasionally, SCP-XXXX-B instances would become briefly illuminated for short amounts of time, during which large portions of the audience would falter and move precipitously.
Seventy seconds into the solo, an unknown number of SCP-XXXX-B instances converge into a tight circle around an unseen Ricardo Davis, weaving rhythmically among one another and tearing unidentified materials away from Ricardo, which are then projected with great force into the surrounding area.
One hundred and thirty seconds in, spotlights shift direction once again, flickering and shining into the audience, where several dozen SCP-XXXX-B are seen watching, presumably having taken the places of various audience members. A protruding arm from the main group is seen grabbing Ricardo's Squier Offset electric guitar, dashing it against the surface of the stage, where it dissolves into a haze of multicolored geometric shapes. Despite this, an amplified guitar riff continues to sound from Ricardo's location, rapidly rising in complexity and pitch.
At this point, the timestamp of the surveillance footage freezes, and breaks in continuity of recording make it difficult to ascertain the exact timeline of the following events. Additionally, the surrounding environment has saturated to include chromaticities outside the recording cameras' color gamut, leading to further obfuscation. The fragments of decipherable footage contain the following:
- Clouds of dust or smoke rising rapidly into the air.
- Segments of audience composed entirely of SCP-XXXX-1 instances, moving at a rapid pace.
- A closeup of lead guitarist Ricardo Davis's face, drenched in sweat and showing an expression of exhaustion, against harsh red and blue lighting. His mouth hangs open at the bottom of the frame.
- Hundreds of blank sheets of paper, fluttering violently in a turbulent current of wind.
- Massive amounts of luminous smoke or fluid swamping the concert venue.
- A face with a set of eyes, squeezed closed as if with great effort. Colored lights play across their surface.
This section of footage lasts exactly 9.8 seconds, and contains up to thirty unconnected scenes. An extremely loud sound resembling hissing or applause plays throughout.
At the conclusion of the Takeoff Event, the camera feed returns to normal. Members of the audience are seen moving sluggishly or sitting on the ground, with an absence of music; all audience members are accounted for. No SCP-XXXX-B instances are present. The four remaining members of P\N\R\M are lying unconscious on the stage floor; Ricardo Davis and his guitar are nowhere to be seen. Irregular scraps of fabric, transparent plastic, raw vinyl and paper float in warm currents of air above the audience, slowly settling to the ground.

Attendant personnel interviewed have had varying and disjointed accounts of the concert, approaching and up to the Takeoff Event. All have reported the occurrence to have been enjoyable, and all harbor positive mental associations with art, irreality, disorientation and escapism. Accounts of the final ten seconds are scarce, but are unilaterally described as 'colorful.'
TEXT LOG
The following chat logs are from the "EMP\N\R\M", a Discord server that was created by the members of P/N/R/M, presumably for enthusiasts of the band to be updated on progress and new content of the band's discography.
Takes time, y'know.
But not forever.
I'm only human.
Like
,
Creatively
The fans ARE biting your ass about it
What is being provided by my ass's presence, Randle?
I don't have little ghosts in my head telling me what to do
And it makes it hard to trust what people say
When I don't know where it comes from
I can't just meditate and shit out music w/e I want, yknow
And it's not fair to expect me to work on that level
When I'm sitting in front of Ableton for hours going over the same four measures ad nauseum
And spend more time listening to synth pop than coming up with anything Our Style,
Shut up about! my ass.
Forgive me for not hearing voices, I guess!
If I'm a shit composer, don't act like I'm a sleeping genius instead.
They're telling me right now.
Remember Walking On Something Else?
But we talked to you. You talked to us.
Like a fuckin person.
This unflappable guru persona might work with the fans, but it's fucking me up.
It's my turn to ask, Ricardo. Do you want me in the band?
I'm sorry. I don't know what to say.
I want to talk to people. I'll talk more, going forward.
If I've been extra distant lately, it's been lack of sleep.
The slow pace of progress is getting to me too. I'm writing as fast as I'm physically able.
Keeping connected to people is a must.
And the human component is much more important than notes on a page.
Honestly, you're this band's base line!
And flow will come with time.
God, i
Sorry. I really do want to make stuff with you all.
Even if the credit goes to some dudes in my head.
DM and we'll talk.
Helps you hear their music.
A good initial foray if you've been holding stuff back.
