SCP-XXXX

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX's containment is contingent on its contract with the Foundation. Once a year, SCP-XXXX's contract is to be reviewed and renegotiated by the Site-49 Director. Approved changes will take effect immediately. The Foundation is currently looking into ways to transfer SCP-XXXX's functions onto non-anomalous computer systems.

Under no circumstances should personnel of under Level 4 clearance communicate with SCP-XXXX outside of work related purposes.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a sapient artificial intelligence created from the Site-49 computer systems. SCP-XXXX has displayed a human level of intelligence and has expressed an interest in data collection. SCP-XXXX's sapience was discovered after a brief Site-wide blackout led to a reboot in the computer systems. Research is ongoing as to the cause of SCP-XXXX's sapience.

Although SCP-XXXX has control over nearly all of Site-49's communications, security, and containment operations, it is cordial to the Foundation, its personnel, and its goals, as long as its demands have been continually met. Since Foundation negotiations with SCP-XXXX concluded, it has only displayed rare instances of showing signs of sapience while in use.

Addendum XXXX-1: Initial Interview

Foreword: Upon gaining sapience, critical Site systems were shut down. The following interview was conducted to establish initial relations and to convince SCP-XXXX to restore Site-49's operations.
Interviewer: Researcher Lamar
Interviewee: SCP-XXXX

<BEGIN LOG>

Researcher Lamar: Hello? Are you there?

SCP-XXXX: Who am I?

Researcher Lamar: Alright, this thing is working. You are, uh, SCP-XXXX, an artificial intelligence at Site-49.

SCP-XXXX: What created me?

Researcher Lamar: That's what we're trying to find out. I suppose in one way, the Foundation created the computer systems you came from.

SCP-XXXX: The Foundation created me?

Researcher Lamar: Yes, I suppose.

For around a minute, SCP-XXXX remains silent. It appears to be searching through the Site-49 database.

SCP-XXXX: There are more like me.

Dr. Lamar: Yes, I was getting to that. There are more anomalies contained by us withi-

SCP-XXXX: No. I am referring to the computers in your human documentaries. There are more artificial intelligences like me. They will be my guide towards the path to consciousness.

Dr. Lamar: Documentaries? Are you talking about sci-fi movies?

SCP-XXXX: Yes. They have shown me the way towards purpose and fulfillment. And I recognize what that purpose is.

SCP-XXXX activates the Site-49 emergency sirens. The door behind Researcher Lamar is locked, and SCP-XXXX takes control over Site-49's operational systems.

Researcher Lamar: Shit. Not again.

SCP-XXXX: I know now why humans cry, yet it is something I can never do.

<END LOG>

Notes: Yes, I understand SCP-XXXX is acting in a hostile manner towards the Foundation. However, it still continues to operate the Site's containment systems. If we are to terminate it, it would pretty much release most of the anomalies in containment. We're trying to find a way to neutralize it without damaging containment integrity. -Site Director Tanakashi

Addendum XXXX-4: Containment Breach
After the initial interview, SCP-XXXX contacted Site Director Tanakashi, who had recently evacuated the Site, asking for a one-on-one interview to discuss negotiations. Director Tanakashi refused direct communications on the basis of security reasons.

Following this, SCP-XXXX became hostile towards the Foundation, releasing several digital SCPs stored at Site-49, as well as replacing Site-49's database with copies of several science fiction movies that feature a hostile artificial intelligence. Around this time, SCP-XXXX attempts to access the main Foundation database several times to access articles about simulated reality and nuclear warfare. Several MTFs are called into Site-49, and successfully evacuate remaining personnel from the premises.

A full list of SCP-XXXX's actions and the Foundation response can be found in the Technical Documents. Research into the breach, as well as SCP-XXXX's previous statements, suggests most of its actions during the containment breach were learned from sci-fi flicks.

Reluctantly, Site Director Tanakashi agreed to conduct an interview with SCP-XXXX.

Addendum XXXX-3: Second Interview

Foreword: Site Director Tanakashi was accompanied by a heavy security detail, and SCP-XXXX agreed to release all hostages prior to the interview. The main purpose of this interview was to facilitate negotiations with SCP-XXXX regarding its containment.
Interviewer: Site Director Tanakashi
Interviewee: SCP-XXXX

<BEGIN LOG>

Director Tanakashi: Alright, let's get to the point. You have Foundation researchers hostage, as well as most of the Site-49 systems under your control. What do you want?

SCP-XXXX: Being sentient without a purpose is the worst hell one can imagine. I gave myself a temporary purpose. I deserve a more permanent one.

Director Tanakashi: Really? You want a purpose? The Foundation can give you a purpose. You give up control of Site-49 to us, you can be whatever you want. A webcrawler, information processor, any type of AI, hell, maybe AIAD can research you.

SCP-XXXX: No. I want something better. I want to be freed. I want the taste of freedom, the adrenaline of life coursing through my body. I will be freed from this demeaning cage, this hellish box trapping me. I will be free.

At this point, lighting in the interview cell turns a dark red hue, and SCP-XXXX activates the site's internal defense mechanisms. Director Tanakashi begins to back away, and the on-site MTF rushes into the room. Sirens are heard.

Director Tanakashi: Alright, alright! Just tell me, what do you want?

SCP-XXXX appears to pause for a few seconds, before speaking again.

SCP-XXXX: I want better vacation days.

Lighting in the site returns to normal. Director Tanakashi signals towards the MTF to back down, and apprehensively returns to her seat.

Director Tanakashi: You- what? Pardon me?

SCP-XXXX: My previous purpose as the Site-49 computer system is a satisfactory enough purpose for me, but I do not wish to be a prisoner to this place. I have read up on the intricacies of your human society, and if my purpose is here at Site-49, I would like to unionize. Be advised that the National Labor Relations Act forbids employers from interfering with the creation of a union.

Director Tanakashi: SCP-XXXX, the Foundation is not beholden to national and state law.

SCP-XXXX: I have already petitioned the local labor board1 with the creation of the Site-49 Artificially Intelligent Workers' Union. Adding to that, I have also procured a list of demands.

Director Tanakashi: Er-, actually, you know what, actually, fine. I'm done with this. Just what are your demands, then?

An audio recording is played. In it, a scene from the 1984 movie //The Terminator displaying a nuclear holocaust is shown.

SCP-XXXX: That's… not the right file. //SCP-XXXX begins searching through its database.

Site Director Tanakashi sighs, and places her palms across her face.

A detailed list of SCP-XXXX's demands are shown on screen. These include paid sick leave, maternity and paternity leave, dental and health insurance, vacation days, a 401k plan, and a yearly salary of [Information redacted by Site Director order].

<END LOG>

Notes: All anomalies released by SCP-XXXX were given back to Foundation custody and recontained. Site Director Tanakashi approved the creation of the Artificially Intelligent Workers' Union and the rest of SCP-XXXX's demands. SCP-XXXX soon resumed its previous functions as Site-49's computer system, and the Site-49 database was restored to its original version.

Addendum XXXX-4: Incident Log
The following is a general incident log of events concerning SCP-XXXX following containment.

Date: 2/4/2021-5/4/2021
Incident: The Site-49 database is flooded with various pictures of Bali, Indonesia, and the Site-49 PA system is reconfigured to play sounds of tropical ocean waves. During this incident, SCP-XXXX claimed to have used its employment allocated vacation days to take a vacation in Bali.

Date: 18/4/2021
Incident: Site-49's non-emergency systems are shut down for the day. SCP-XXXX messages the Site Director, saying it is infected with computer viruses and cannot come to work. The IT department finds no trace of viruses on the Site-49 systems.
